Mid 90’s till 2005 was the peak of skating, as in there were so many skaters and everyone pushed each other to keep getting better. Fuck’n great times. Personally I didn’t skate nearly as much after 98-99 was out partying to much lol. I definitely would’ve been pro if I didn’t live in Australia. I should traveled to the states with my mates back then. Here in Australia there were shitty skaters who were sponsored and really good skaters like myself and others who weren’t, even if you made the sponsored skaters look like amateurs they got the shits and skate at a different spot. They were pretty much gate keepers they were also older

It's wild how quickly DL evolved. He was so far ahead of the game but it's a shame his career was so short.
Exactly. It's sad that most of the "icons" really left the industry with no trace. I understand that everyone has to feed a family and it's not that easy to earn a decent money in rollerblading industry rn, but they left a huge gap. They could share the experience with the next generations like the footballers or other athletes do, but that's what we have. It's a really important part that we missed
i agree it would be dope to constantly see new footy of DL but id say for a rollerblader he had a pretty full and epic career. i dunno thats just my 2 cents

Hi! Great to see you here, bro! I often receive messages like this from the rollerbladers, someone even says that this is the only place where the videos exist and it's awesome. I'll try to find more oldschool vids in my archives.
I'm really grateful for this film. After skating for 6 years, I dropped it in 2006 at 14 from a lack of community. I picked it back up totally alone in college in 2012, age 20, dealing with depression, because I was straight up too depressed to care any more about people yelling homophobic shit and mocking me, or about busting my ass in front of people. I eventually found the community -- a big group that built their own box and took it to a slab and would have day-long meetups all the time. I missed out on it for other reasons, but I kept skating solo. By 2015, the only time people yelled out at me, it was genuine excitement and joy and encouragement. Idk what tf happened in those 3 years, but it was big. And I'm still skating; just bought some Thems for my 31st bday. I think the underground trajectory of blading necessarily compelled its community to adopt a tolerant, anti-ostracism ethos that the mainstream took longer to get to. Unless you're someone who's being shitty to people, I don't care who you are -- I just like having someone to skate with.
I think the biggest missing piece in this film is failing to talk about homophobia and the extent to which blading got dragged in the grab-bag of bigotry that festered in the late 90s and early 00s mainstream culture in the States. The film straight up shows the F slur in writing, repeats the epithets aloud, yet doesn't say the word "homophobia" even once, let alone denouncing it. I know that's from its 2006 context, but I'd like to see a film like this be made now about the state of the scene, and for it to include an analysis of that.
